Hey! Here from the future, almost 9 years later, and this is still an annoying problem. This perspective grid keeps getting triggered by who knows what combination of keywords. In 2025 we have fabulous AI-powered tools, but I still need to Google how to disable that damn perspective grid, which I've never used in my life. And no... it still doesn't work by clicking on that little "x" in the corner of the icon, which in theory should close the tool.

First, I expect that if something works, why change it? Who even asked for a radical redesign of a UI that's been working for decades?
Second, the philosophy behind User Experience on software design is basically common sense and consistency. These "balance" color tones don't represent what's actually happening when you "subtract" or "add" a percentage of color contained in a selected range. If I remove 100% yellow from a yellow patch in a photo, I don't expect it to turn blue as the tool suggests, It's absurd!

So... one of the best Photoshop tools I've used for decades for color correction has been replaced overnight by a duplicate of "Color Balance." I can't simply no longer correct individual colors as I did intuitively before. Why has a tool that worked perfectly been destroyed? The change has been so disastrous and counterintuitive that I can only think it's a silly programming error!

Three years later still with that... even this "view treshold" that suppose was useful in the 90's when computers were slow. But burying that option in the preferences menu, between hundreds of parameters is a complete waste of time and health (as all Adobe apps out there -except for Photoshop-). But hey... welcome to Adobe way of life.

No :-). The problem is that this is a simple transparency "Settings" that is hidden in "File > Document Settings". Common sense always had me look in "Illustrator > Settings..." or at least in the same place it should be next to "Transparency Grid". As said, it's in "Document Settings"... not the most intuitive place, as there are many similarly named "settings" menu options spread out within the menus.

Hey! Thanks for your quick response... I've actually been trying to solve this problem for years... but always within "View" or "Settings" since I assumed it was a UI configuration setting. Searching Google and YouTube I only found answers on how to remove checkerboard backgrounds from images downloaded from the internet.

I can't believe I'm the only one I've been struggling with this for decades... How can I get rid of transparency checkerboard? Back in the 90's, Corel Draw had it as default, you could decide the color of the "page", so you could see how it would see over not white backgrounds (screen printing and plotter for example). I need to eliminate that obnoxious checkerboard in the background to work with transparency. I've been trying for weeks to edit a handful of complex white logos, which I obviously want to be able to see on a "NON-WHITE" background as is the default color of the Artboards. Checkerboards destroy my retina and prevent me from following the contours of the elements. And no... it doesn't help me to create a giant dark-colored box that covers all the Artboards. It is tedious to lock/unlock, activate and deactivate each time I export the assets to avoid the background appearing by mistake. In Photoshop you can edit the individual color of each square, or even turn it off. Would it be so difficult to create a basic button to deactivate checkerboard and/or choose the background color?

So... with this violation of “guidelines”, sure we hadn't had any of the beautiful Monty Python's movies. Really... these days, playing with your AI, I've felt how the old eastern communist block faced the strong soviet's censorship. I know you have to create a safe environment for the human being, but at cost of the creativity? You're developing a creative tool, not a dogmatic ideologic 1984-esque censorship paradigm. At the end, we're sharping our minds to fool the inner AI censorship to get what we want, as it happens in totalitarian societies. Today for example… hours to generate a decent Prussian-war outfit for a steampunk friend’s picture. Needed lies and tricks to convince AI I didn’t want to harm anyone. So, Adobe users think we are mature enough to face our own responsibilities. If I can google the most recent Ukraine news and videos, why can I create a Prussian cavalry costume over somebody, because I wanted to add a sword in his hand? And please, don’t take that as a “heater” proclaim… only as a personal philosophic though in loud voice.

So after weeks delaying my delivering of a capital project due to XD laggings, I've discovered that one of my small component files has summed 2.2 GB in weight!!!... So no wonder why each time I save or update whatever in the layout, I've to wait for 10 minutes to work. Even 15 minutes to open the file from the cloud... WHY?!!!...
Then, I recieve yet another messager... about more than 20.000 elements in components. What kind of app is it, do I have to depure by hand the memory of XD itself?... 30 minutes and still loading.

Well... "quickly updating". 262 words to describe 6 steps that implies yet more sub steps, managing components and dragging-dropping, and all that prone to errors. In Adobe's own Illustrator or inDesign, linked images are authomatically updated after you edit them externaly. Simply let say that XD is a perfect example of bad UX and extreme cognitive friction.

Seems it's something we have to live with. Even I don't mind seeing this blue button saying I've to "Update" the library. The problem is that after more than 4 documents attached to this library, it multiplies the issues, missing lkinks, long syncing times, slowing and freezing XD... etc, etc, etc. Worst of all... I end up creating new files from zero, trying to alleviate the update problem. First day OK, but when I start to add complexity in components, everything goes out of control (and ending with dozens of files with similar naming, because of the urgency to solve problems) Thanks god, I've started to learn Figma... at least they take users seriously.

Oh!... only those four steps? Really, we XD users complain about any insignificance. Anyway... left Font Awesome behind many years ago, when I saw there wouldn’t be any solution to that. Now simply copy paste the glyph converted to curves and paste right at the text’s side. It's a waste of time of course, but hey, there are still worst things on XD that makes burn your time (and patience) multiplied by 1000.

Yep!... thanks. I've tried to leave the "vice" of working with XD, but you know... face learning curves in the middle of important projects is not the thing I want. Anyway, I'll take seriously your suggestion... really I don't need perfect gradients or flourishes that I rarely use, I only need a tool that I can trust it, an can do what I have in mind. Now it's a Russian Roulette, I can't make project’s accurate budget calculations, because it can be from hours to months. Simply look how this left menu exploted in my face, when updated just in the middle on a crucial presentation to stakeholders, of a very big air line...

Haahahaha!!!... just voted, I'm the 9th!!! Awesome to see that common sense has to be voted. Anyway, even to vote or write any opinion, I've to login each time I need to get in in this community or uservoice (why two different places to ask simply for justice?) In every web app, forum or whatever place I go, I can get in seamessly... Adobe commounities/uservoice is the only place that sistemathically asks me to log in, no matter if I've been there yesterday. With such practices, I can understand why only 9 votes of a such basic thing (among hundreds of others that barelly get the 100) Even, it's a good barometer to see the real amount of "serious" XD's users.

"It looks to me like this feature is working the way it was designed"... so 3 years ago, it "looked to somebody" that this absolute design failure and waste of time is working the "way it was designed". So obviously, the "Correct answer" came from somebody that hasn't any idea about Usability, even nor about XD in itself. 2022, and stil wasting 100's of hours only clicking the component to memorize his structure. It prones to a stressing session of broken components, losing states, jumping from state selector to the component, expanding it, fix the eye on it, and see it again close. Sure, that was the "way it was designed" according to a personal opinion of somebody that should to hel ups, no send us links to places that nobody reads at Adobe. Simply, XD is an absolute shame of product. Even it fails to work as is intended to do as an UX design tool. Angry, frustration and impotence about all those thousands hours Ive lost since I made the wrong decission to try it: Create a simple collapsible menu, three or four states, with another component inside... a week to test and make it work after hundreds of failures. Came a small change from customer... a week more.

Ooook... so, after hours working on a design system, my customer decided to change the base type of font, and the color. I've made at least 20 different character styles. Does it mean that I have to multiply by 20 all the time invested to edit manually each individual text style? It means for sure more than 30 minutes... Tediously manually setting the font by searching through the infinite dropdown list, and write manually the color (no way to select it from your swatches), is done at least in one minute. Even prone to errors, as with this high contrast and minimalistic XD interface is cognitive difficult to distinguish anything after your fifth change. As usual, XD is still a buggy beta app.

Worst here... created a component Library in XD. I'm the only owner, so I could add more assets from other apps, as Illustrator. But not! It appear in Illustrator as a "linked " library, an can't do nothing with it (for example, add vector illustrations to the library. Instead for example, I made another library in XD (the one named "Jettainer DS + Compopnents"), but this isn't not linked and can be edited and added new items. I've been one week trying to figure it out what happens... and I assume it's simply UX bad conception, limitations and usability. Too complicated to manage assets between libraries and always bugs and conection issues depending on which tool you are using.
